Job: Assistant Professor – Judicial Politics, West Virginia University

The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in judicial politics. The successful applicant must demonstrate strong theoretical interests, a broad knowledge of and interest in the diverse approaches to the study of judicial politics, appropriate methodological skills, an active research agenda as evidenced by conference papers and/or publications, a potential to secure external funding for research, and an interest in and ability to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The teaching load for research-active graduate faculty is two courses per semester. The ability to teach effectively a section of the department’s undergraduate judicial politics introductory course and advanced undergraduate courses on constitutional law and civil liberties, interdisciplinary law and society studies, trial courts, or related topics is required. The successful candidate for the position will have the opportunity to develop a graduate seminar about American constitutional development with a theoretical or substantive focus of her or his choosing. Completion of the Ph.D. in political science by August 15, 2013 is required.

The Department of Political Science has a faculty of 19 and offers a full range of academic programs (B.A., M.A., and Ph.D.).
